Dean Patterson is in his sixth year of involvement with Phantom Regiment. He served as the group’s head conductor (2011-2013), tour assistant (2014), and – having started in 2015 – is currently tour manager. During his time with the corps, Patterson received DCI’s Jim Jones Leadership Award & Scholarship (2013) and the Mark Glasscoe Memorial Member of the Year Award (2013).
Patterson is currently in his second year of teaching as Assistant Director of Bands at Riverwatch Middle School in Suwanee, GA. A trumpet player, he is a recent graduate of the University of Georgia in Athens, GA, where he earned his Bachelor’s degree in Music Education. As an undergraduate, he performed with the UGA Wind Ensemble, Wind Symphony, and various chamber ensembles. While at UGA, Patterson studied trumpet privately with Michael Tiscione of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, and conducting with John P Lynch and John Whitwell. He received additional conducting instruction through workshop participation with Kevin Sedatole, Michael Haithcock, and Craig Kirchhoff.
Professional affiliations include Georgia Music Educator’s Association, National Association for Music Education, and Conductor’s Guild. Patterson currently lives in Cumming, GA, and also enjoys photography, running, golfing, and traveling.
