Dr. Debra Traficante is a distinguished educator and conductor with a rich history of leadership in music education and performance. Serving as the founding Director of Athletic Bands and Professor of Music at Kennesaw State University, Dr. Traficante played a pivotal role in shaping the musical landscape of the institution. Under her guidance, the KSU Marching Band, fondly known as “The Marching Owls,” debuted in Fall 2015 to great acclaim. She also spearheaded the direction of the KSU Basketball Pep Band, bringing spirit and energy to the university’s athletic events.

Beyond her work with athletic bands, Dr. Traficante founded and conducted the KSU Wind Symphony, and also taught courses in wind band literature, arranging, and pedagogy to students, while also teaching education courses for the College of Education. She mentored aspiring music educators and led the chapters of Kappa Kappa Psi and Tau Beta Sigma, fostering a culture of excellence and camaraderie within the music community.

Prior to her tenure at Kennesaw State, Dr. Traficante served as Assistant Professor of Music/Assistant Director of University Bands at the University of Oklahoma. There, she conducted the Symphony Band, co-directed the “Pride of Oklahoma” Marching Band, and played a pivotal role in the education and mentorship of graduate and undergraduate students through a myriad of music, education, and leadership courses.

Dr. Traficante’s educational journey is marked by academic excellence and dedication. She holds a Bachelor of Music in Music Education, cum laude, and a Master of Music degree in Wind Band Conducting from the University of Florida. Additionally, she earned a Fellowship to pursue a Doctor of Musical Arts in Wind Band Conducting from the University of Oklahoma.

As an esteemed conductor and educator, Dr. Traficante’s influence extends far beyond the classroom. She spent several years serving on the brass and conducting staff with the Boston Crusaders Drum and Bugle Corps. She frequently judges, guest conducts, and leads clinics across the United States, and has conducted at prestigious international conferences and venues. Dr. Traficante is recognized as an Educational Artist with Yamaha and has taught at Yamaha Bl√§sorchester Conferences in Europe since 2014. She is also sponsored by Remo, Vic Firth, and Sabian, attesting to her expertise and acclaim in the field.

In addition to her professional achievements, Dr. Traficante has been deeply involved in the music community, demonstrated by holding leadership positions in national music organizations and receiving numerous awards and honors for her contributions. Her dedication to music education and her commitment to excellence make her a respected figure in the world of music.
